Peter Slaghuis was a Dutch DJ that turned his talents over to remixing in the late 80s, doing everyone from Madonna to Technotronic, Pet Shop Boys, Nu Shooz, Kool Moe Dee and I’m not even scratching the surface. His last name means hit-house in English and as Hithouse he penned his biggest number ‘Jack To The Sound Of The Underground’ in ’88. Sadly, Peter died in a car accident in 1991.
To remember this track by we have two new remixes courtesy of long-standing Dutch techno heavyweights, Koen Groeneveld and Addy Van Der Zwan, who have long resumes themselves. Koen’s mix is tough on the drums and percussion, as you might expect but offers a repetitive synth that really never quite jells with everything else. This is probably why the Beatport massive prefers the Zwan remix and frankly, it’s a total balls-out pop-topper. Housey as hell, the riff and the samples get just a wee discofied but never overdoing it. When the drop hits, fuggedaboutit. 8/10 (5/10 for Koen’s mix)
