Hey folks its been a while, summer vibes have kept the doctor on the down low, but I am all amped up for @iiipoints festival just over a week away. III Points has caught my eye from afar for the past few years with great lineups, a host of talented locals and a heavy does of technology and art infusion smack in the Wynwood district of north of downtown Miami. While many will be drawn in for the headliners, LCD Soundsystem, Thievery Corporation and M83 there are some out right gems that don’t make it to this side of the pond that often that make this a must see for the doctor.
KiNK, hailing from Bulgaria is a synth genius and mad man when it comes to laying down a groove. Do your self a favor and dig through some of his youtube jams and you will be remiss not to catch his set. Bonus point for mixing my man Luke Vibert!
BenUFO is another treat on this line up. This Hessle audio co-chief hits the head on the nail when it comes to his evolving DJ sets. There is a reason Resident Adviser asked him to curate one of their 500 mixes. Expect the unexpected and know that whatever happens he is going to make you move.
DJ Koze has been my cosmic godfather for years. I got a chance to catch the tail end of his set at Movement Detroit years back and still regret not hearing the whole thing. The Pampa records co-founder has been serving up left of field slabs of off kilter house for a good while and his remixes are always a strange trip through space and time. Caribou, Mount Kimbie, Underworld, Moderat and Matthew Dear all chose this scientist for his remix duties and we will get taste in just a few days.
Ok nothing gets to me more then some good bells and no one does bells and textures quite like Pantha Du Prince. Warm soul drenching experimental experiences are what I have come to expect from the DIAL records cohort and look forward to hearing them in the flesh.
That’s just a few of my favs that make this festival different a beast for the southeast and there are so many others, Machinedrum, Dusky, Dixon, Lapalux, Junior Boys, Museum of Love and not to mention a ton of talented Miami folks bringing the heat for three days straight. Check out there soundcloud page for some more great mixes and local flavor and look for me on the dance floor October 7-9th.
