Did you know Underworld‘s Rick Smith was the music director for the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony? Read about it here and on Pitchfork. Underworld conrtibuted two new songs for it and there will be a 2xCD featuring those and other selections to come out August 6th. Awesome!
The Eternal Basment project is back on Harthouse after a 17 year absence. ‘Zustandsgeber’ is the new full-length following the ‘Momentanien‘ 12″ released late last year and lurks in the driest and otherworldly corners of German techno. From the funky to the aqueous to the urgent, EB serves a disc of the finest Mannheim has to offer. Serious! CD/MP3. 86/100

Sasha‘s new label Last Night On Earth has been bringing the goods a la Chris Fortier’s Fade Records as of late and who could complain? Ghosting Season sounds like Pole Folder with a side of Scala. ‘A Muffled Sound Of Voices’ comes with Ed Davenport, Jamie Funk, Jack Dixon and Luke Abbot interpretations but the smart money’s on the Davenport Vinyl Only Dub exclusive to the 12″. This precedes the brand new debut 2xCD ‘The Very Last Of The Saints’ and don’t forget their 2011 debut single, ‘Far End Of The Graveyard’ which you can still get copies from their website. They also just did a mix for John Digweed’s Transitions show. All this stuff is dripping with quality, but for the single: 80/100.
